The city of Norman got its name almost by accident. Its original surveyor, a young man named Abner Norman, was working on behalf of the federal government. His crew called their camp “Norman’s Camp” and made a sign saying as much. As local traffic began passing the area, thanks in large part to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the name Norman just stuck. It was incorporated as a city in 1891 and grew significantly over the following decade.  Eventually, Norman would become a popular bedroom community toward the end of the 1950s. Many who work in Oklahoma City use Norman and Interstate 35 to get the best of both worlds.

Given its proximity, it’s no surprise that the main employer of Norman residents is the University of Oklahoma, which has 10,700 personnel in all. However, Norman also hosts the National Weather Center and may soon be home to the National Weather Museum. These businesses alone have made Norman colocation services a necessity.
