Common Requests We Handle (from buyer language)

“Need ½ rack (20–22U) in Dallas / Chicago / NJ with 3–5 kW and 1–10 Gbps.”
“Looking for 1–4U near Bay Area / NYC, 1–2 kW, short month-to-month or 12-month term.”
“Full rack (42–48U), 10–15 kW, dual A/B 208V, carrier-neutral, HIPAA/SOC 2.”
“High-density 20 kW for mixed GPU/CPU, PDUs included, good PUE and clear remote-hands SLAs.”
“Need cross-connects to cloud/on-prem, /29 IPv4, basic DDoS, KVM/IPMI access.”
“Ship servers in; need racking/cabling help, weekend install window, and predictable MRC.”

How It Works

Step 1
Share your specs

Location, U-space or rack size, kW per rack, bandwidth, term, and any compliance requirements.

Step 2
We match you against 500+ providers

We filter our network for providers with available capacity at your footprint and power density, in your target market. Providers who can’t actually deliver your spec don’t make the list.

Step 3
You get direct introductions

Qualified options connect with you directly, with pricing and specs ready for comparison. You decide which is the best fit. No obligation.

Step 4
Decide with confidence

We’re a second set of eyes on contracts and assumptions if you want one, flagging anything that looks off before you sign.

Pricing Reality Check (What to Expect)

Pricing depends on footprint, power draw, bandwidth, redundancy, and city. Here’s a realistic range by footprint type.

    FootprintTypical MRCPowerNotes
1–2U$99–$500/mo0.5–1 kWEntry-level, varies most by market
4–8U$300–$700/mo1–2 kWCommon for small production workloads
Quarter / Half rack$700–$1,400/mo2–5 kWMost common SMB and DR footprint
Full rack, standard density$1,200–$2,000/mo5–10 kWVaries significantly by market
Full rack, high density$2,200–$5,500/mo10–20+ kWGPU/AI and dense compute workloads

Smaller footprints cost more per kW than 250-500 kW wholesale blocks. Primary markets (Ashburn, Silicon Valley, NYC) generally run higher than secondary markets (Dallas, Phoenix, Columbus). Exact pricing depends on power, redundancy, bandwidth, carriers, term, and city. We send current quotes matched to your spec.

Rack, Cage, or Suite: Which Footprint Fits

    Rack

Best for 1U to full-cabinet deployments. You lease space inside a shared cabinet or a dedicated locked rack. The most common starting point for SMBs, startups, and single-site enterprise deployments.

    Cage

Adds physical segregation around multiple racks, typically your own locked perimeter inside the data hall. Common for compliance-driven deployments or teams scaling past 4-6 racks who want controlled access independent of the facility’s general security.

    Suite

A dedicated room within the facility, built for large or custom deployments. Usually the right fit once you’re well past 10 racks or have specific cooling, power, or physical security requirements a standard cage can’t accommodate.

Why Rack Pricing Jumps Between Cities

Three factors drive most of the difference:

    • Power cost — markets with cheap, abundant power price lower across the board
    • Real estate cost — land and facility costs flow directly into rack pricing
    • Carrier density — facilities with deep on-net carrier ecosystems command a premium because the connectivity has real value, not because the rack costs more to operate

The result: secondary markets (Dallas, Phoenix, Columbus, Atlanta) generally price 20-30% below dense primary markets (Ashburn, Silicon Valley, NYC/NJ).

When primary markets are worth it: carrier density or specific latency requirements justify the premium.

When secondary markets are worth it: for most workloads, where they deliver comparable reliability and connectivity at a meaningfully lower price.

    FAQ

Can I start with a few U and scale to a half rack later?

Yes. Many facilities support path-to-rack growth with minimal re-cabling, so you can start small and expand in place rather than migrating to a new provider as you grow.

Do you support high-density (10–20+ kW) per rack?

Yes. Tell us your kW target and we’ll filter for providers with the power and cooling infrastructure to actually support it. Not every facility advertising “high-density” can deliver 20 kW per rack in practice.

Are remote hands available on weekends and after hours?

Most facilities offer 24/7 remote hands, but rates and response times vary significantly. We confirm the remote-hands rate card and SLA for any provider before it reaches your shortlist, so there are no surprises after you’ve signed.

What’s the difference between a rack, a cage, and a suite?

A rack is the right fit for 1U to full-cabinet deployments. A cage adds physical segregation around multiple racks for compliance or scale. A suite is a dedicated room for large or custom builds. Most buyers start with a rack and move to a cage once they’re managing several cabinets or have a compliance requirement for physical isolation.

Does working with QuoteColo cost more than contacting a provider directly?

No. The price is exactly the same as going direct. Providers work with us from their existing sales budget, the same way they’d fund an in-house sales rep. You pay nothing extra. What you get: direct introductions to multiple qualified providers competing for your business, instead of working through one sales process at a time.

How fast can I actually get rack space once I sign?

Standard rack space in an existing facility is typically available within days to a couple of weeks once a contract is signed, faster than wholesale or build-to-suit deployments because no construction is involved. Exact timelines depend on the provider and whether any custom power or cabling work is needed.
